2002,
joined DAPC
as the Director
People
come to DAPC physically, emotionally and spiritually unstable,
with a decade or more of alcohol and/or other drug abuse
behind them. Many are addicted to very powerful drugs that
have become the center of their life, causing significant
changes in brain and body chemistry. Yet regardless of the
length of their addiction or its severity, our challenge
is the same: get them stabilized. |
Show
them how the disease affects them and how it can be treated
effectively. Get
them to face themselves honestly, set up structure for continued
support and then return them to the community. A “oneness
of purpose” characterizes all of our programs. Long-term
recovery from addiction is much more than just abstinence,
it requires a total change in lifestyle, and it is pretty
much impossible without development of a socially productive
lifestyle for the first time. |

|
| Everyone
DAPC touches, every chemical dependent person, every family
we support, and every employer who gets a recovered worker
is a link strengthening the community. This is our challenge
and our reward. |
